Sport, games and fun
You may also have noticed that even minor sporting achievements can provide an enormous degree of pleasure. This is why at Kids of Africa, sport is systematically part of the programme.
Sport is a treasure trove when it comes to education, and that is particularly the case for children on whom life has not really smiled. Games and athletics enable children to regularly extend their own boundaries. The experience they gain builds their confidence, and more besides. It strengthens their immune systems and promotes friendship, solidarity and fair play. These are some of the many reasons why we make sport a priority – and because sometimes it simply works where words alone are not enough.
Here are a few examples:
- Our oldest children regularly hold a “Kids of Africa Run for Fun”. This professionally organised public run attracts around 1,000 participants from near and far.
- Football and also tag rugby tournaments are regular highlights of our village life.
- The trampoline is also a big attraction. It demands a sense of balance and flexibility from an early age.
