Impact of the projects on the children
Our projects start at the grassroots level: with the children. Our children’s village offers vulnerable children a place to stay and a family where they feel safe and feel loved. We give them a perspective for the future.
The children attend our primary school, where they learn for life. We not only teach them basic knowledge, but also enable them to lead a self-determined life later on. In our vocational schools, they can complete further training so that they can later stand on their own two feet and provide for themselves and their families.
Thanks to our scholarship programme, children from poor backgrounds can also attend school. This enables them to escape the poverty trap. Because educated children help their families to stand on their own two feet.
We also support our protégés outside of school. We offer cultural and artistic programmes or support them in sporting activities. This promotes the children’s social skills and enables them to integrate into a community.

In his study on the Kids of Africa scholarship programme, Valentin Varnholt shows the importance of education in Africa.
An analysis of almost one thousand scholarships for Ugandan pupils, which were awarded after the two-year school closures in Uganda, poses the question of whether the scholarships have a lasting effect.
Varnholt’s work confirms the considerable personal and social benefits that the unexpected scholarships have brought to the recipients, their families and their schools.

“When I finish school, I want to give something back to Ugandan society. This scholarship is a privilege, but also a responsibility. I want to dedicate my work to God and my country.”

“My mum used to sell our cows or our property to pay my school fees, but now she has enough money for my siblings again. I no longer feel guilty for making my mum’s life difficult.”

“I’m no longer the hopeless person who stayed on the floor for four years. I’m now a student with a vision for my future.”
