Dear Friends
Merry Christmas! All over the world, Christmas is a special celebration for many people. Perhaps because it is the festival of love. When we give someone a gift, we also say, “I love you!”. Perhaps Christmas can make it easier for us to speak the language of the heart. Because at heart, at least every child knows that love – more than power or money – is the strongest force in life.
“I love you!” also describes the hope-giving promise of the story from Bethlehem that Christians celebrate today. But even those who do not share the biblical hope can celebrate and enjoy Christmas as a festival of family, friends and peaceful togetherness.
At the end of a turbulent year, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you from the bottom of my heart: for your trust, your interest and your valuable support, without which nothing would work at Kids of Africa. We have done a lot this year. About 1,000 school scholarships organised and closely monitored – a huge but worthwhile effort. Built a new vocational school. Managed a farm for self-sufficiency. Conducted reforestation on steep slopes. Supported several schools. Organised sports and health days. An educational trip with our oldest protégés. And: the children’s village. The heart of Kids of Africa.
All these many things also acted like little sparkling gifts for a better world. They brought light into the darkness for many families. For this we would like to thank you very much today.
We spent more resources than ever on all this this year. Even though our income from donations almost halved. So we used our savings in good conscience to set some course. To set a sign of light, love and solidarity in an uncertain world.
On behalf of the many children, pupils, students and families you support, and just as personally, I would like to sincerely wish you “Blessed Holidays and all the best!”.
Always
Your Burkhard Varnholt
