Dear friends,
We all know the time for sowing and the time for harvesting. The image came to mind as I watched the lovely short video of our farm:
You know, when I spoke to our protégés in Uganda recently, that saying came to mind. We have invested a lot of time and love in all of our protégés. And that’s a good thing. “Never stop believing” is the daily refrain of our work.
The hard work of sowing is followed by the joy of harvesting. But it takes time, care and patience. The grass doesn’t grow faster if we pull on it. That’s fine too. But after the summer, we can harvest. A day of celebration. And then it starts all over again. The cycle of life.
Our protégés carry on the spirit of Kids of Africa. Because no man is an island. They too sow seeds. They do this, for example, when they work on the farm. They also do this by becoming role models for others. They start doing this as early as kindergarten age. It is a gift to quietly observe them doing this. A gift that you, dear friends, make possible with your important help (yes, we are currently particularly dependent on it).
Back to our farm: it delights the stomach and the soul. The work brings people together, shapes them, creates jobs and gives meaning. This is how we do “child labour”: hand in hand, together and at leisure. We sow and we reap.
