The meaning of life
Dear friends
Let me introduce Benjamin Kizito, a secret hero of Kids of Africa. Benjamin came to Kids of Africa as a baby. Even as a little boy he stood out with many talents. At the age of 9, he wrote an amazing essay of great maturity. Today he is studying law as the best student in his semester. An internship as a lawyer earned him the highest praise.
Benjamin has his head and heart in the right place. Empathetic, supportive, selfless. He recently told me “I want to change the world for the better”. And yesterday he sent the following lines. Read them for yourself. May they also show how our work is bearing fruit. For which, by the way, we are currently – more than ever – dependent on every form of support.
Best regards
Yours, Burkhard Varnholt
By Benjamin Kizito:
What’s the meaning of life? Is it in money, or is fame? Is it countless achievement perhaps? To me, love is the most satisfactory answer to that question. To love and to be loved.
Without love, life can feel like a meaningless existence, void of essence and meaning. Love is fills the space, and brims life with an energy, a zest, a resilience and strength of soul only it can give. Love for family, love for one’s community, love for one’s work, love for the world etcetera.
At Kids of Africa, we don’t just say we are family. We are truly a family. I remain grateful for the love I receive from my Kids of Africa family. But more importantly, I am grateful for the opportunity to love them because that anchors me more than anything and imbues me with a deep sense of fulfilment, purpose and meaning. It pushes me to do the best and be the best of myself.
It has been said that love is the only thing worth dying for. I say love is the only thing worth living for. Nothing compares to the joy and satisfaction of extending kindness, warmth, hope and to make someone’s heart smile.
“Love is the greatest force in the universe. It is the heartbeat of the moral cosmos. He who loves is a participant in the being of God.” Martin Luther King
Written with love,
Benjamin.
