Days for Girls is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing every girl and woman in the world with access to quality, sustainable menstrual health and education solutions. Days for Girls is committed to eliminating the stigma and restrictions associated with menstruation so that women and girls can achieve better health, education and livelihoods.
Kids of Africa ran a project to raise awareness about menstruation and women’s health. The aim of the project was to remove the stigma that still exists around this topic, educate people about women’s health and produce reusable sanitary towels.
Various workshops were held as part of this project, including
- Training a sewing team to make reusable sanitary pads
- Training girls on the topic of menstrual health at various schools
- Training for boys under the title “Men Who Know”
- Publicizing the project with the help of printed T-shirts and promotional materials
This year’s charity run raised around USD 5,000 for the menstrual hygiene awareness project. In addition to this income, more than ten Ugandan media outlets reported on the project.
The Ugandan Athletics Federation will include the charity run in its official calendar of events next year. Runners from all over the world are invited to take part in the upcoming event to help raise awareness of the project. Kids of Africa is happy to help with the organization of transport, accommodation, meals and participation in the run.
